About Grants

The Care Leavers' Foundation exists primarily to make small grants  to care leavers aged up to 29. Our grant-making is primarily targeted at care leavers aged 21+ who have no recourse to any statutory support or alternative sources of funding.
Can you remember how many times your adult children came back home in their twenties, or got help and support from you through a tough time? Somewhere to crash when a relationship has broken up. Money to help with the first car. A shoulder to cry on when things just seem too much. There are so many things we take for granted from our families, which are a natural part of the support that young adults need as they set up their first home and begin to make their way I the world. Many care leavers begin their adult lives without family support, without anyone to rely on.
Through our grants scheme, we aim to help care leavers get a better start in life. We can't be a 'forever parent ' to everyone who leaves care, but we can help financially, and perhaps prevent a setback turning into a major crisis, or assist someone to take advantage of an opportunity. For more details of who is eligible, download a copy of our Framework and Guidance document
Most of our grants are made to care leavers over 20 years old. Grant applications are welcomed from all care leavers up to the age of 26 to help with personal development needs, crisis payments, education, training or employment needs. Applications connected with training and enterprise are open to care leavers up to the age of 29.
