Despite over ten years of specific leaving care policy since the Children(Leaving Care)Act was implemented in 2001 many careleavers still receive inadaquate levels of support when they leave care, and their ongoing needs as they grow into adulthood are poorly understood.

NCLW2013 'The First Decade' looks at the progress of care leavers during that vital first decade after leaving care and invites practitioners and policy makers to consider how better their changing needs could be addressed. Most importantly, National Care Leavers' Week is an pportunity for us all to listen to those who are 'experts by experience' - care leavers themselves.

National Care Leavers' Week is a joint initiative of all the major charities working with and for care leavers and is coordinated by the Care Leavers' Foundation.
